I believe that everything that is created begins in the mind. The things we read, see, hear and speak affect our motivation, momentum and actions. It’s no accident that every other post you scroll through on instagram is a quote that has the potential to inspire you to have a better day. These types of posts work! They typically get the most likes on social media and are the most shared content around the web. We love to be inspired and motivated, yet when it comes to taking action we face a lot of self-inflicted resistance that prevents us from moving forward. Resistance such as “I’m too busy,” “I’ll start tomorrow,” “today is not a good day” or my favorite, “I wish I could do that” keeps us running around the hamster wheel not really going anywhere nor getting anywhere, but nevertheless staying as busy as a little bee!
The same rings true for us in bar method class. Hearing the instructor praise us for our determination in thigh-work, or our beautiful extension in round-back never gets old. We work hard for the acknowledgement and appreciate the praise, yet we still find ourselves pulling back even when the instructor is pleading for us to give a little more. We just can’t, don’t, won’t, or wish we could. What is it? Well, I plan to get to the bottom of it (btw I’ve always thought I would make a good detective if I wasn’t a bar method studio owner). In the meantime, try out these 5 positive affirmations next time you take class to help free you from your fears, doubts, comfort zone or dare I say, laziness! They’ve worked for me when I’ve wanted to give up and I hope they trigger the same response for you. Leave a comment and let me know what your favorite pre-game mantra is for before bar method class!
